On the way back [from Long Island], we got on the New Jersey Turnpike and pulled into a rest stop (I think it was Woodrow Wilson) when we realized that between the two of us we didn’t have enough cash to pay the exit toll! We happened to have an acoustic guitar with us, so we decided to try to play for spare change. – John

Recorded in the Summer of 1993 by John Marburger
We sat down on a bench near the entrance, opened up the guitar case and put it in front of us with a sign that said “Please Help” and started playing. Mike did most of the singing, while I talked to people who dared to get close enough LOL. I was in the habit of bringing a little cassette recorder around with me, and so here it is, The Shit live on the Jersey Turnpike!
We made close to $30 in a little over an hour, plus someone threw in a joint (we didn’t know it until later). That was actually more $ for less effort than we had ever made to date with the entire band, and we were like, what the hell have we been doing all this time? We should have been playing at rest stops!
